The Howard Frankland Bridge has been an iconic Florida landmark for over half a century, carrying 132,000 vehicles along I-275 between Tampa and St. Petersburg daily. However, its infamous traffic jams have resulted in the bridge becoming a major chokepoint, and multiple expansions since its opening in 1960 have proven only partially successful in reducing congestion and traffic accidents.

Grove is offering a new heavy-duty jib extension for the Grove GRT9165 rough-terrain crane that increases the 165 USt (150 t) crane’s utilization abilities. It provides a competitive edge for setting precast concrete panels, as it’s easier to transport and faster to set up than competitive cranes for tilt-up work..

SOMA Training, a Dutch provider of lifting operations courses, has purchased a Grove GMK3060-1 for its mobile crane courses. With the all-terrain crane located at its facility in Harderwijk the organization is now able to train students from across the Netherlands in properly operating the very latest mobile crane technology.

As the successor to the Grove TMS800E truck crane, the TMS800-2 adopts technology and features developed for larger truck-mounted and all-terrain cranes and packages them into an easily roadable 80-USt unit.

Scandinavian rental company Nordic Crane has taken delivery of five new Grove all-terrain cranes from Manitowoc. All five-axle units to supplement its regional fleet. Four are based at the company’s Norwegian operations, while one is at the company’s Swedish facility. There are two 150 t capacity GMK5150L-1 cranes and three 250 t capacity GMK5250XL-1 cranes. The crane in Sweden is a GMK5250XL-1.

Compass Equipment purchased the first MDT 489 M25 topless crane in North America. The Southwestern company sent the crane to work at the Las Vegas Strip last month. Compass Equipment is a longstanding and loyal Potain customer investing in both self-erecting and top-slewing cranes.

Manitowoc is expanding its boom insert offering with the new Wide Boom Plus kit for its MLC300 lattice-boom crawler crane. The new inserts will give crane operators extra reach by lengthening their booms up to 429.8 ft (131 m) when used in combination with the VPC-MAX^® and extended upper boom points. They will be particularly useful for assembling wind turbines.
